PostTue Apr 22, 2014 8:14 pm

Looking for some suggestions on a rod and reel setup for Cobia fishing. Spinning reel or baitcaster? Thanks.

I use Shimano's Baitrunner 4500's and Shimano's Torium 20 Reels matched with the Trevala butterfly jigging rods. Very light weight.

sometimes it's depends on if you're using live bait, chasing bait pods, jigging reefs, or trolling.

i use baitrunners too, but have them on a 7' custom rod (#10-#25 class), and i have a small level-wind.

use what you have, just make sure it has decent line capacity in case you have to chase a fish.

I use Shimano TLD 15's and Ugly stick custom 7'. Use the same for King fish, Tarpon, Cuda's, AJ's. This setup will catch alot of fish and is not to expensive. I also like Penn 450,550,650, 850 spinners for pitching baits on Ugly Stick Custom Inshore, Big water, and some cheap but impressive Off Shore Angler "Power Stick" Spinning Rods. I think the Ugly Stick Custom rods are an excellent value.
