How often should you change your fishing lines on your rods?

It depends on a lot of factors including the type of tackle, how much it's been used, how it's stored and cared for, how serious you are about fishing, and last but not least, your budget. I *try* to change the line on my offshore trolling gear (30# mono) yearly. Tackle with briaded line... ever other year. 20# spinners and small bait rods every other year. Nornally I always change line when I get reels serviced whether I do them or I take them to the shop.

thanks yellow186

I really don't fish that much. I was just curious. But since I don't fish that much I can get away with just changing them once every two years.

Never go more than two seasons and I try to do it every year. Most bait shops have a Spring sale where in is like 1 cent per yard, or about $5 per reel. If not, you can order a 2500 yard or 5000 yard spool fairly cheap online and just wind it your self. Buy good line too. It pays in the long run.

For live bait fishing, I like Yozuri Hybrid, it's a little more expensive, but it seem to last longer than any other "mono" line out there, UV light and water absorption is what breaks line down and the hybrid (nylon + florocarbon) doesn't seem to be effected as bad. I always check the line for damage while putting bait out. Only change it when the reel starts getting low. I buy it in 3# spool of 20# test (8700 yds) to keep the cost down.

Henry,
Have you tried Momoi diamond? It breaks at about twice the rated line strength. I've been using 16 lb momoi diamond in the clear color for several few years and have really liked. I'm not sure what the composition is or how it would compare to Yozuri Hybrid. They all seem to talk about breaking strength, tough finish and abrasion resistance. But the only real number i have so far is the 200% breaking strength with Momoi.

I have tried it, seem to be a good line. but not as durable as Yozuri in my opinion. UV rays are very tough on fishing line and Yozuri seems to hold up better for me. Now Yozuri isn't all that good for casting, for that I use Powerpro braid for spinning reels and Gamma co- polymer for casting reels. I'm sorta wierd about fishing tackle, as long as it works, DON'T MESS WITH IT ! So far this combo has worked on some good fish in some bad places, luckily.

Thanks, I will have to give Yozuri a try (I've seen the fish you catch! )

Have to put my vote in, Berkely Big Game is some very tough mono. Have caught some big fish on 15 and 20lb test. Im afraid to try anything else. Caught a 150lb shark on 15lb test, was a 1hr and 15 minute fight. 40+ #cobia and some good king fish on the 15lb. I do replace my mono every year.

Add my 2 cents worth with oneal, berkeley big game (not too pricey and durable), change every year...better to not lose "the big one" because line was sun rotted.

Aren't there any ande fans out there. I use the green on my salt spinning gear, great stuff; flexible, cinches down well, and is pretty tough.

I wish

I didn't bring the boat with me.

Hopefully in the next 2 or 3 weeks I'll start to jerk some lips though
