Hard Top for 197

Has anyone ever looked into replacing the canvas on your T-top with a hard top? Is that feasible? Would it be too heavy?

Not that I plan on doing it since I just bought the boat last year but I would be interested to know as well. I don't think it's just the weight of the hard top you need to consider but also the wind force on it while under way. The support structure for the top on the 197 looks like it wasn't meant for much more than canvas. Hopefully one of the Pioneer guys can advise?

I would think the wind resistance for the canvas wouldn't be dramatically different than a hard top. They would both have pretty close to to the same surface area except that a hard top would have a lip that went slightly past the frame instead of slightly short of it like the canvas does.

The hard top is to heavy. That's the reason I was told. I inquired about one for an Islander.

Built one out of Starboard last year for my 197. Looks and works great.
